For the first time in the province of La Union, the Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo of ABS-CBN conducted a citizen journalism workshop among the SLUC students at the JDA Hall yesterday, 1:00-5:00 pm.
Rowena Paraan, Chairwoman of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines and Head of Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo ABS-CBN Citizen News Journalism, discussed about the involvement of ordinary people in the field of journalism and the spreading of fake news.
She tackled topics like citizen journalism, factors driving citizen journalism, the importance of citizen journalism, use of social media in reporting issues and incidents happening within the community, and also she showed videos sent by the Bayan Patrollers.
Moreover, she talked about widespread fake news and taught the students how to identify fake news based from the given information on the website.
Also, she answered questions raised by the students, informed them regarding the ways they can submit their Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo stories, and encouraged them to be Bayan Patrollers.
Lastly, she challenged the students not to let “Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan” to be just a cliché and to be aware and involved in the current issues of the country.
The Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo is a citizen journalism platform of ABS-CBN that aims to encourage citizen involvement and community action and has been conducting seminar-workshops in the entire Philippines.
